Surgeries are schedules Monday thru Friday, with many of the pets being sent home the same day.  We feel that a majority of pets recover better at home with their owners and amid familiar surroundings. At Steinbach’s, anesthesia is tailored to your pet’s needs and animals are carefully monitored during surgery by our skilled technicians. We offer pre-surgical blood work and electrocardiogram (ECG), a pain management program, and Carbon Dioxide Laser Surgery.
If your pet is scheduled for surgery:

        * No food after midnight the day before surgery (your pet may receive water)
        * Drop off your pet between 7 and 9 am the day of surgery
        * Call between 2 and 3 pm for an update and discharge time.

When you pick up your pet, the doctor will discuss with you the necessary post-operative care and answer any questions you may have.  If your pet needs follow-up veterinary care or a suture removal, please make an appointment with our receptionists before leaving.
In many procedures, the laser can replace the scalpel and provide a better alternative to traditional surgery.  The main reasons for laser surgery are:

        * The laser seals small blood vessels producing little or no blood loss
        * The laser seals throbbing nerve endings, and can significantly reduce post-operative pain for your pet
        * The laser seals lymphatic vessels and produces little or no swelling

The laser surgical unit is used for all feline de-claw procedures and is offered for most of our other surgical procedures.
